PSEG Long Island Employee from Lake Ronkonkoma and his Daughter Honor Fallen Veterans

June 14 is Flag Day

Flag placement

(UNIONDALE, N.Y. – June 14, 2023) PSEG Long Island employee Daniel SantaMaria, of Lake Ronkonkoma, took time out from his Memorial Day celebrations to honor fallen service members by placing flags at graves at Long Island’s national cemeteries.

After participating in the event last year at the Long Island National Cemetery in Calverton, SantaMaria decided to take his seven-year-old daughter, Emma, along this year to commemorate the occasion and teach her about the somber holiday.

“I am glad I was able to experience this day with my daughter. To be able to show our appreciation to our military heroes and honor those who served, defended our country and were laid to rest is something that I am proud to do. Having my daughter along was a bonus.”

- Daniel SantaMaria

SantaMaria was part of a group of two dozen PSEG Long Island employee volunteers who participated in the flag placement at both Long Island national cemeteries in Pinelawn and Calverton on the Saturday before Memorial Day. The following Saturday, many of the volunteers went back to remove the flags that were placed for Memorial Day. This is an annual activity for PSEG Long Island employees.
