PSEG Long Island, Local 1049 Reach Agreement on Contract
(UNIONDALE, N.Y. – Nov. 4, 2023) PSEG Long Island announced today it has reached an agreement on a collective bargaining agreement which has been ratified by the members of Local 1049 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, one of the largest private sector labor unions on Long Island.
"Through a fair democratic process, our members have ratified a contract with PSEG Long Island that invests in their future through strong wage increases, healthcare coverage, and retirement benefits. This shows labor's power when we stand united at the bargaining table,”
- Pat Guidice, Business Manager, Local 1049 of the IBEW
“The agreement provides continued stability and strengthens the partnership between the company, its employees and IBEW Local 1049,” said David Lyons, interim president and chief operating officer of PSEG Long Island. “We value the partnership we have built with Local 1049 over nearly a decade, and we look forward to working with them to continue PSEG Long Island’s commitment of delivering outstanding service to customers.”
“The contract recognizes the dedication and contributions of Pat Guidice and the members of IBEW Local 1049 in serving Long Island and the Rockaways and always putting electric customers first,” said Thomas Falcone, chief executive officer of the Long Island Power Authority. “I look forward to all we’ll do together for our community over the next four years. I’d also like to thank the negotiation team on both sides that put in long hours over many months to find the right outcome for our employees, customers, and community.”
The four-year agreement, which was subject to a ratification vote by IBEW Local 1049 membership on Nov. 4 and approved by the Long Island Power Authority, covers nearly1,500 PSEG Long Island bargaining unit employees who operate and support the transmission and distribution system on Long Island and in the Rockaways. The agreement enables PSEG Long Island to control costs and continue to offer a market-competitive compensation and benefits package. Key elements of the contract include wage increases over four years and changes to active employee medical plan contributions.
The agreement replaces a contract that would have expired on Nov. 13, 2023, and will run through Nov. 13, 2027.
