PSEG Long Island Employees Spread Holiday Cheer with Toys and Cards to Neighbors

(UNIONDALE, N.Y. – Jan. 30, 2024) PSEG Long Island employees helped make the holidays happier for their neighbors last month by donating toys and writing out holiday cards for their neighbors.

PSEG Long Island employees donated more than 400 gifts, including electronic learning toys, board games, dolls, action figures, trucks, cars, gift cards, and more to the PSEG Long Island Outreach Council’s annual toy collection drive.

The gifts were distributed to children and families at agencies and churches across PSEG Long Island’s service area, including: St John the Evangelist Church in Riverhead, Mary Brennan INN Soup Kitchen and Center for Transformative Change Resource Center in Hempstead and Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Far Rockaway.

And more than 100 children enrolled in the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program had their holiday wishes fulfilled last month thanks again to philanthropic PSEG Long Island employees. Hundreds of gifts, including tablets, trucks and remote control vehicles, dollhouses and dolls, toys, games, action figures, and clothes were purchased to support the annual program.

“We are grateful for the generosity you have for the society [and] we appreciate working with you each year to help friends in need. We appreciate working with you each year to help friends in need. Thank you for supporting us in accomplishing the goal of helping the less fortunate.”

“Every year I am overwhelmed by the kindness of my coworkers when I ask them to participate in the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program. I put out the call for donors and hundreds of people raise their hands, and open their hearts and wallets to purchase gifts on the kids’ wish lists,” said PSEG employee Subrena Burwell who runs the program for the company each year.

The Salvation Army Angel Tree program partners with businesses and individuals to fulfill the holiday wishes of more than one million children in need each year.

PSEG Long Island also sent holiday greetings to hundreds of seniors and veterans this holiday season, as well as a unit of active duty airmen who weren’t able to come home for the holidays.

The company provided holiday cards to its employees for them to write their own personal messages to their neighbors. This year, cards were given to Meals on Wheels recipients through EAC and Catholic Charities of Suffolk County and provided to the General Needs organization to distribute to local veterans. A stack of cards was also sent to Langley Air Force Base in Hampton, Va., to brighten the holidays for a unit of active duty Air Force personnel who weren’t able to make it home for the holidays.

PSEG Long Island employees participate in community service activities throughout the year because, along with providing safe and reliable power, community service is an important part of PSEG Long Island’s culture.
