PSEG Long Island Employees Make $1,650 Donation to U.S. Naval Sea Cadets Corps Lt. Michael Murphy Division in West Sayville

(UNIONDALE, N.Y. – Nov. 20, 2024) PSEG Long Island employees recently made a $1,650 donation to the U.S Naval Sea Cadets Corps Lt. Michael Murphy division in West Sayville. The donation was made through two of PSEG Long Island’s employee business resource groups (EBRG), the PSEG Long Island Vets EBRG, which is comprised of advocates and supporters of military causes, issues and veterans, and the PSEG Long Island Adelante LI EBRG, which is made up of employees who promote, advocate and support Hispanic people and cultures.

“PSEG Long Island has a longstanding commitment to community service and we are proud to support veteran organizations. As an adult volunteer and parent of a son in this program, I have seen firsthand the values this program instills in young people – patriotism, teamwork, hard work and self-pride. I’m grateful that my employer and colleagues are supporting this wonderful community service organization.”

“I offer my finest military salute to PSEG Long Island for this generous donation and the support they have given us over the years,” said Lt. Cmdr. Gary Vertichio, commanding officer of the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps. “Our staff is all volunteers and 100% of the monies we raise goes to the program to fund the cadets’ uniforms and gear, along with advanced trainings, educational trips and special events.”

The U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps is a non-profit leadership development program of the U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard for young people aged 10 through the completion of high school. The Lt. Michael Murphy Naval Sea Cadets division was formed in 2012 and is one of 400 units throughout 46 states, Guam and Puerto Rico. Today there are 40 local cadets in the program.

Membership in the Sea Cadets allows teenagers to sample military life with no obligation to join any branch of the armed forces. Sea Cadets are taught honor, respect, courage, teamwork and leadership skills.

Community service is part of PSEG Long Island’s core commitments. This donation is an example of how its employees support the causes and issues they care about and those that affect their neighbors throughout the year.
