Host Community Benefit Program

Benefiting Local Communities

Provides a direct benefit to residents of the local community where renewable energy projects are located.

The Host Community Benefit (HCB) Program provides an annual bill credit to residential customers who live in the town or city where a Major Renewable Energy Facility is located (constructed after April 3, 2020) for each of the first ten years that the Facility operates in that Community.

The owners of Major Renewable Energy Facilities are required to pay an annual fee in the amount of $500 per megawatt (“MW”) for solar projects and $1,000 per MW for wind projects for the first ten years of project operation. The fees collected from the Facility fund the Community Benefit Program, which provides an annual bill credit to the residential electric utility customers residing in the town or city where the Facility is located.

Currently, there are no qualifying Major Renewable Energy Facilities in the LIPA Service territory.
