2QB551 Project
Reliability Projects
PSEG Long Island maintains close communication with local officials about the impacts of construction work in your community. Because of this, we are aware that National Grid recently performed work along Adams Road, and we will be expediting a portion of our project that involves installing underground conduit and other equipment below street level on Adams Road. This will minimize the time before this portion of roadway undergoes final restoration.
Project Specifics
The project we are planning is a reconfiguring of your neighborhood’s existing electric distribution system, incorporating recent best practices in both circuit design and equipment, resulting in improved reliability and faster outage restoration.
Timeline
Work will begin mid-March 2025. After construction starts the work should be completed in approximately three weeks. When it is complete, restoration of the road will take place. The rest of the larger project is tentatively scheduled to begin in May. During this phase, PSEG Long Island will be back to perform final work along Adams Road, but that work is not expected to require further excavations on this road.
Crews will be working Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Route
Adams Road between Everit Avenue and Waverly Avenue. Portions of the work will take place in the Village of Hewlett Harbor and Village of East Rockaway - both in the Town of Hempstead.
Benefits of the overall reliability project
New/upgraded underground equipment and cables
- The new equipment will be less likely to fault, reducing the chance of outages.
- The upgraded equipment will allow for increased loads and better overall voltage quality.
New system configuration
- The new configuration will add protective devices so that if a fault does occur, fewer customers will be affected. In addition, restoration will be quicker because troubleshooting will be confined to a smaller area.
- The new configuration will provide alternate feeds to transformers that were previously fed from a single electrical feed. In the event of a fault, the alternate feeds could be utilized to quickly restore power to neighborhoods while crews conduct repairs.
- Transformers will be moved from backyards to the street to provide crews with easier access to equipment, reducing troubleshooting times
- The existing, customer-owned cable that brings power to your house will remain in place.
In addition to roadways, infrastructure will also be installed, in some instances, along the side or rear property. We want to assure you that we will return to conduct final restoration to any areas that were affected by our work.
Frequently Asked Questions
Please see the most frequently asked questions below.
- Will there be tree trimming?
Trees growing near power lines significantly increase the chance of power outages and pose safety risks. As we expand and improve our electric circuits, we will trim trees, where necessary, following our utility best practice model (ANSI A300 standards as well as the Best Management Practices Tree Pruning publication): 8 feet to each side; 12 feet above; and 10 feet below the line. - Will there be power interuptions?
PSEG Long Island does not anticipate any power outages as a result of the first phase of work in March. During the later phases of the project, we do anticipate scheduled power outages as the new system is tied in and energized. All affected customers shall be notified in advance and PSEG Long Island will make every effort to keep the outage durations to a minimum. - How can I get more information or leave feedback?
