Project Specifics

This project was completed in April 2020.

PSEG Long Island will be upgrading the electric distribution infrastructure to improve reliability in Amityville and Massapequa. This project will include upgrades to overhead primary wires, distribution pole replacements and new underground cable. The work will help ensure that we can provide safe and reliable electric service to businesses and residents in the area.

Crews working on the infrastructure will:

• Upgrade equipment to improve reliability
• Replace wood, distribution poles with similarly sized wood, distribution poles
• Install a wood, distribution pole at intersection of Merrick Road and Bay View Avenue
• Replace overhead primary wire with stronger, more resilient wire
• Install underground cable 

 
Timeline
Crews will begin work late October 2019 and will last approximately 6 – 8 weeks.

Project Route
Overhead work will take place on the following roads in Amityville: 

• Avon Place
• Broadway
• Bay View Avenue
• Oak Street
• Merrick Road
• Bryan Avenue

 
Underground work will take place in Massapequa along Grand Street and within Field of Dreams Park. Work completed inside Field of Dreams Park will not conflict with any athletic fields and/or playground.

• What are the work hours?
  Field of Dreams Park: Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
  Otherwise, crews are expected to work Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
• Will there be tree trimming?
  Yes. Trees growing near power lines significantly increase the chance of power outages and pose safety risks. As we expand and improve our electric circuits, we will trim trees, where necessary, following our utility best practice model (ANSI A300 standards as well as the Best Management Practices Tree Pruning publication): 8 feet to each side; 12 feet above; and 10 feet below the line.
• Will there be any power outages?
  In the event that a brief outage is required, all affected customers will be notified in advance.
• Will there be any traffic interruptions?
  There may be traffic and parking disruptions while the work is performed along the project route. To ensure traffic moves safely, PSEG Long Island will provide cones, flaggers and signage at the work sites, as needed.
• Do you have permission to do this work?
  PSEG Long Island is in the process of securing the proper local and LIRR permits.
