Great Neck C&R Project

Reliability Projects

We're making upgrades to enhance our system's ability to withstand extreme weather and meet energy demands.

To improve reliability and strengthen the system, PSEG Long Island will install a new underground distribution cable and the conduit to contain it. The project will also include work on the existing overhead distribution system. This work will upgrade the system to operate at a higher capacity, which will increase electric reliability and will support future load growth in the area.

Project Specifics

  • Installation of a new underground distribution exit cable within a duct-and-manhole system
  • Installation of a new wood pole

Project Timeline
Crews will begin work in January 2023 with completion expected by June 2023. The majority of the project work will be conducted on Community Drive and will take place overnight from 7:00 p.m. - 6:00 a.m. to minimize traffic disruptions. Required minimal interconnect work and pole installation will take place on Pond Hill Road, Monday through Friday, from approximately 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Project Route
Crews will be working along Community Drive, from north of North Shore University Hospital to Pond Hill Road, extending a few hundred feet west onto Pond Hill Road.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please see the questions below.

  • Will there be any power outages?
In the event that a brief outage is required, all affected customers will be notified in advance.
  • Will there be tree trimming?
Trees growing near power lines significantly increase the chance of power outages and pose safety risks. As we expand and improve our electric circuits, we will trim trees, where necessary, following our utility best practice model (ANSI A300 standards as well as the Best Management Practices Tree Pruning publication): 8 feet to each side; 12 feet above; and 10 feet below the line.
  • Will there be any traffic interruptions?
There may be traffic and parking disruptions while the work is performed along the project route. To ensure traffic moves safely, PSEG Long Island will provide cones, flaggers and signage at the work sites, as needed. Local officials will be notified in advance regarding any traffic concerns.
