Reliability Projects

We're making upgrades to enhance our system's ability to withstand extreme weather and meet energy demands.

Project Specifics

PSEG Long Island is installing new underground and overhead distribution feeders and expanding the existing substation on Route 25A to meet the growing demand for electricity in the Mount Sinai area. Our overhead lines and equipment will be upgraded in the area to meet current standards. Additionally, transmission pole work will occur along existing pole alignments within the Right of Way. These upgrades will ensure that you and your neighbors receive safe, reliable electric power for years to come.

Route
Work will take place along Mount Sinai Avenue, Canal Road, Chestnut Street, New York State Route 25A, North Country Road, Mount Sinai-Coram Road, Shore Road, Little Harbor Road and Old Post Road.

Timeline
Construction is expected to begin in July 2024 with all underground work completed by September 2024. The remaining work is projected to be complete by June of 2025. Crews will be working Monday – Friday from approximately 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Some weekend work may be scheduled to alleviate weekday school and community activities.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Will there be tree trimming?
Yes. Trees growing near power lines significantly increase the chance of power outages and pose safety risks. As we expand and improve our electric circuits, we will trim trees, where necessary, following our utility best practice model (ANSI A300 standards as well as the Best Management Practices Tree Pruning publication): 8 feet to each side; 12 feet above; and 10 feet below the line.
  • Will there be any power outages?
In the event that a brief outage is required, all affected customers will be notified in advance.
  • Will there be any traffic interruptions?
There will be traffic disruptions along the project route as installation occurs. Access to the bike path within the LIPA Right of Way may be restricted at certain times during the project. To ensure traffic moves safely, PSEG Long Island will provide cones, flaggers and signage at the work sites, as needed.
  • Do you have permission to do this work?
PSEG Long Island has secured all necessary approvals.
  • How can I get more information or leave feedback?
