Corona Avenue Pole Replacement
Reliability Projects
Project Specifics
PSEG Long Island is committed to delivering best-in-class system reliability to meet the needs of the communities we serve today and in the future. In the coming months, we will be performing necessary work to support a New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) project. PSEG Long Island is performing this work to provide necessary electric clearances for the NYSDOT road reconstruction.
Route
The NYSDOT will reconstruct the west bound exit and entrance ramps off the Southern State Parkway at Corona Avenue.
Timeline
Construction is expected to be performed between April 2025 and June 2025.
Transmission Work
An existing wood transmission pole will be relocated and replaced with a new wood transmission pole, and one new wood transmission pole will be installed. The existing transmission pole is approximately 52 feet in height. The replacement and new transmission pole will extend to heights ranging from approximately 64 to 67 feet above ground level. The transmission pole replacement/installation will require utilization of taller transmission poles to meet current engineering standards. All work will occur within an existing transmission pole alignment.
Alternatives to the project and a description of the comparative merits and detriments:
This work is required to support the NYSDOT entrance/exit ramp reconstruction project. The work activities are necessary to ensure the safe and reliable delivery of electric service while accommodating roadway reconstruction activities. Therefore, alternatives were not assessed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Please see the most frequently asked questions below.
- Will there be tree trimming?
Trees growing near power lines significantly increase the chance of power outages and pose safety risks. As we expand and improve our electric circuits, we will trim trees, where necessary, following our utility best practice model (ANSI A300 standards as well as the Best Management Practices Tree Pruning publication): 8 feet to each side; 12 feet above; and 10 feet below the line. - Will there be power outages?
No power outages are anticipated with this work. If a brief outage is required, affected customers will be notified in advance. - Will there be any traffic interruptions?
No significant operational or construction impacts are anticipated due to this project. Short-term traffic disruptions may be experienced and will be addressed via traffic control measures and coordination with the NYSDOT. - How can I get more information or leave feedback?
