PSEG Long Island is committed to delivering best-in-class system reliability to you by hardening the electric system to better withstand extreme weather like heatwaves and storms like Superstorm Sandy.

The upgrades we’re working on are necessary to keep pace with the growing demand for electricity. During the next few months, you will see workers strengthening the system along West Walnut Street, New York Avenue, West Park Avenue, Park Street, Malone Avenue, and West Beech Street. While this work is performed, traffic will be impacted along the route.

This project was completed in June 2019. 

Project Specifics

PSEG Long Island will install an underground feeder to provide reliable power and keep pace with the growing demand for electricity.

Specifically, we will:

• Install an underground feeder to provide reliable power and keep pace with the growing demand for electricity.
• Install switching equipment to provide reinforced backup support in emergency or contingency situations.
• Install nine new manholes, providing service personnel with better access to maintain equipment.
• Replace two poles that are approximately 50 ft. high with poles that are approximately 55 ft. high and thicker. The new poles meet our current, storm-hardened standards.

This investment will upgrade the underground distribution system to promote even more reliable electric power to the surrounding community.

Project Route

The underground cable work will cover approximately 1.3 miles along the following streets:

• The south side of West Walnut Street, from just east of July Walk to New York Avenue.
• New York Avenue, between West Walnut Street and West Park Avenue.
• West Park Avenue, between New York Avenue and continuing west onto Park St. until Malone Avenue.
• Malone Avenue, between Park Street and West Beech Street.
• West Beech Street, from Malone Avenue to just west of Mark Lane.
• The two poles being replaced are located on Beech Street: by the corner of Mark Lane and just west of Mark Lane.

  Crews will work daily Monday through Friday from approximately 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

  No.

  Yes.
• Will there be any power outages?
  PSEG Long Island does not anticipate any power outages related to this project.
• Will there be any traffic interruptions?
  There will be minor traffic disruptions along the route. To ensure traffic moves safely, PSEG Long Island will provide cones, flagmen and signage at the work sites, as needed.
• Do you have permission to do this work?
  PSEG Long Island is in the process of securing the proper local permits.
