This project was completed in February 2019.

PSEG Long Island will replace a transmission tower along Peninsula Boulevard. This will involve the removal of an old, 76-foot-tall steel tower and four temporary transmission poles, and the installation of two new steel poles. The new poles will be 70 feet tall, meet our current, storm-hardened standards, and will hold the wires that will provide high-voltage power to neighboring communities.

The work will take place at a point on Peninsula Boulevard:

• Between Rockaway Avenue and Gibson Boulevard westbound.
• Between Prospect Avenue and Harris Avenue eastbound.

• What is the timeline for the project?
  Construction is scheduled to begin in late November and consists of two phases of work.

Phase 1: During this phase, construction crews will remove the old steel transmission tower and set the foundation for the replacement steel poles. Work will take place Monday, November 26 through Saturday, December 1; and Monday, December 10 through Friday, December 21. Crews are scheduled to work between 8:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. with intermittent day work.
 
Phase 2: During this phase crews will install 2 steel poles and remove the four temporary wooden transmission poles that are currently holding the transmission wires. Beginning in mid-January, crews are scheduled to work between 8:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. for approximately three weeks.

During both phases of the project, Peninsula Boulevard will be intermittently closed while work is being performed. The road will be opened after each shift ends. The occasional day work in Phase 1 will require the closure of one lane of traffic at a time. In the weeks after Phase 2 concludes, there will be some traffic disruptions as crews complete work on the transmission circuits at the new poles. We will do our best to notify you of work hours and traffic disruptions. 

• What are the work hours?
  Crews are scheduled to work daily during the phases mentioned above, from approximately 8:00 p.m. – 5:00 a.m.
• Will there be tree trimming?
  No.
• Will the project include new poles or pole replacements?
  Yes. Two new steel poles will be installed near the removed transmission tower and the four temporary poles.
• Will there be any power outages?
  PSEG Long Island does not anticipate any power outages related to this project.
• Does PSEG Long Island have permission to do this work?
  PSEG Long Island is in the process of securing the appropriate local permits.
