Route 106 Utility Relocation

Project Specifics

PSEG Long Island is committed to delivering best-in-class system reliability by expanding electrical capacity to meet the needs of the communities we serve today and in the future. In the coming months, we will be performing necessary work in your community to support a New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) project.

Project Details
PSEG Long Island is performing this work to provide necessary electric clearances for the NYSDOT sign replacement. The NYSDOT is replacing a road sign above the northbound lane of NY-106, near the Southern State Parkway. To provide necessary electric clearances for the NYSDOT’s sign replacement, PSEG Long Island will replace five wood transmission poles along the eastern side of NY-106 and one wood guy pole along the western side of NY-106, between Sycamore Lane and Hart Avenue.

The five existing transmission poles range from approximately 51.5 feet to 57 feet in height. The replacement transmission poles will extend to heights ranging from approximately 64 to 65 feet above ground level. The existing guy pole extends to an approximate height of 34 feet above ground level, and will be replaced with a guy pole that will extend to an approximate height of 43 feet above ground level. All replacement poles will be wood, and will be installed immediately adjacent to the existing pole locations.  PSEG Long Island will coordinate the removal of old poles with other utilities.

Alternatives to the project and a description of the comparative merits and detriments:
This work was requested by the NYSDOT to support a sign replacement. The work is site specific and, given the required nature and timing of the project, alternatives were not assessed.

Start Date
Construction is expected to begin at the end of October and is expected to be completed by December 2024.
