Tech Park Feeder Project

Reliability Projects

We're making upgrades to enhance our system's ability to withstand extreme weather and meet energy demands.

Project Specifics
This project is necessary to address an increase in load as a result of new residential and commercial developments in the Central Islip area.

This project will install approximately 2.5 miles of 750 CU underground cable, 6 PMH switchgears and 3 switches. The project will include installation of 13,200 feet of cable starting at the Tech Park substation on DPW drive. We will utilize horizontal directional drilling or open trenching. Temporary drill pits will be installed in some areas and trenching will be required to tie-in the new cable to existing equipment.

Pole Repleacement
A single pole replacement with upgraded pole-top equipment is planned for the southeast corner of Carlton Avenue and Clift Street.

Timeline
Construction is expected to begin at the end of March 2025 with anticipated completion December 2025. Crews will be working Monday – Friday from approximately 7 AM – 5 PM, with occasional shorter workdays from 7 AM – 3 PM. Weekend work will occur as needed.

Route
Work will take place along the following locations:

  • Tech Park substation on DPW drive continuing underground through the Islip DPW yard and beneath Carleton Avenue
  • Carleton Avenue just south of Court House Drive to Smith Street
  • Court House Drive between Carlton Avenue and Eastview Drive
  • Eastview Drive between Court House Drive and Admission Drive South

Frequently Asked Questions

Please see below for frequently asked questions.

  • Will the project include tree trimming?
Trees growing near power lines significantly increase the chance of power outages and pose safety risks. As we expand and improve our electric circuits, we will trim trees, where necessary, following our utility best practice model (ANSI A300 standards as well as the Best Management Practices Tree Pruning publication): 8 feet to each side; 12 feet above; and 10 feet below the line.
  • Will there be any power outages?
PSEG Long Island does not anticipate any planned power outages related to this project. However, if the need for an outage arises, customers will be notified in advance.
  • Will there be any traffic interruptions?
There will be traffic and parking disruptions along the project route and immediate area while work is being performed. To ensure traffic moves safely, PSEG Long Island will provide cones, flaggers and signage at the worksite, as needed.
  • How can I get more information or leave feedback?
