Bridgehampton to Buell New 69kV Underground Cable

Project Specifics

PSEG Long Island will install a new 69KV transmission line in new underground conduit within the existing right of way between the Bridgehampton substation in Bridgehampton and the Buell substation in East Hampton. The new cable will run parallel to an existing overhead transmission cable already in operation. These upgrades will ensure that you and your neighbors receive safe, reliable electric power for years to come.

Project Location
The new cable will run from the Bridgehampton substation on Bridgehampton – Sag Harbor Turnpike east within the existing transmission right of way until it reaches the Buell Substation on Cove Hollow Road in East Hampton.

Project Timeline
Work is expected to begin 2024 and be completed by the summer of 2025.

Frequently Asked Questions 

  • What are the work hours?
    Crews will be working Monday – Friday from approximately 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, except on Route 114 where crews will be working from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Some weekend and night work may be scheduled to alleviate weekday community activities. No night work is planned to occur within the Village of Sag Harbor. If night work becomes required, customers in the affected areas will be notified in advance. 
  • Will there be tree trimming?
    Minimal incidental tree trimming required for construction equipment clearances. At the eastern end of the project route, an area will be cleared to allow for installation of the circuit under the Long Island Rail Row right-of-way.
  • Will the project include new poles or pole replacements?
    No, all work will be performed underground.
  • Will there be any power outages?
    PSEG Long Island does not anticipate any planned power outages related to this project. However, if the need for an outage arises, customers will be notified in advance. 
  • Will there be any traffic interruptions?
    There will be traffic disruptions along the project route as installation occurs. To ensure traffic moves safely, PSEG Long Island will provide cones, flaggers, and signage at the work sites, as needed.
  • Do you have permission to do this work?
    PSEG Long Island is undertaking a thorough environmental review and working to obtain approvals required to complete the project.
